LMI Custom Mixing Completes Initial Stage of Plant-Wide Expansion

LMI Custom Mixing, a manufacturer of polymer compounds, has completed the initial stage of its $12-million plant expansion.

The expansion added a two-story raw material warehouse, a larger finished goods warehouse, plant infrastructure upgrades and a third mixing line.

The new mixing line features a 135 Liter intermesh mixer with in-line gear pump straining and advanced cooling capabilities as well as a state-of-the-art control system.

Since the third mixing line became operational, LMI has been able to provide additional flexibility in compound scheduling and production. The new line increased LMI’s annual production capacity to 60 million pounds of rubber, which will help support the strong growth of its customers.

The completion of this initial phase has also made an impact on LMI’s Quality and R&D departments. LMI’s quality team is utilizing state-of-the-art technology to run quality assurance tests on the third mixing line, and the R&D extrusion line was moved to a more centralized location near the R&D lab.

LMI is expected to complete its expansion by the end of 2018. This includes a training area, meeting area and new administrative offices.
